Ask Captain Jerry Nolte...
What do we need to bring?
Just bring yourselves and whatever you'd like to eat and drink. There is a full
size refrigerator on board but you are welcome to bring a cooler. Many people
like to bring a camera to capture the day. Also remember sun screen, sun glasses
and a light jacket if the weather is cool. How long have you been doing this?
I’ve been fishing for about 25+ years now. I’ve been running
a Charter Service for 15 years, first on Lake Michigan and now out of
Stuart, Florida and Ocean City, Maryland. What did you do before this?
I was a corporate pilot and flew a Citation III for a corporation that
moved out of state.
Is this your full time job?
Yes.
Do you guarantee we catch fish?
No. I can guarantee you a good day fishing, but only God can guarantee
you a good day catching.
How big is the boat?
BIG! The boat is 42’ long and 17’ wide. It is powered with twin diesel
engines. Normal cruising speed is 20 knots with a top speed of aprox. 25-28
depending on load. It’s a ‘Sportfisherman’ model designed for offshore
ocean fishing and can easily handle worse conditions than we want to be
out in. If you'd like to see a picture, go to our About
our boat page.
It’s a large boat so why can we only have 6
passengers?
The six passenger restriction has nothing to do with the size of the
boat. It is a US Coast Guard licensing limitation. It is licensed under
the uninspected vessel regulations. I hold a Coast Guard Masters License
up to 50 tons.
How did you get into this business?
One day I was a pilot out fishing in my 18' boat and it occurred to
me that this would be a neat way to make a living. The next thing I knew
was driving a 42' boat wondering what happened. Actually, I planned on
chartering when I retired. I just hadn't planned on retiring at 40.
Do you scuba dive?
Yes. I've been diving since 1967 including 4 years in the Navy's UDT
/ SEAL Teams. I am also a NAUI
instructor #3455.
Do you have a family?
Yes. My wife, Diana, is retired from
Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories. I also have two kids -- David, a
biology teacher and Elizabeth, a recently graduated Doctor of Pharmacy. Do you live on the boat?
No, but I sometimes spend as much as 4 or 5 days a week living
on board.
